Round 7 – Knockhill: Qualifying

Published on August 10, 2024

Quotes from the seventh qualifying session of the 2024 Kwik Fit British Touring Car Championship season

Chris Smiley: “In FP1 this morning we still had the power steering issue that we had at Croft which turned out to be a faulty hybrid battery, so it was good to get that fixed. So, because of that we sort of lost the first session of the weekend due to the issue.

“In FP2 the car felt really good, and we were running well inside the top 10, it was looking good for another top qualifying session. But yeah, the car in qualifying didn’t feel anything like what the car did in FP2 so we are just looking through things at the moment but we’re not 100% sure why we’ve lost the pace. It seems that there have been quite a few cars that had a different feeling from FP2 to qualifying, it will be interesting to see what we find. “It means that tomorrow we are starting out of position and we’ve got lots of work to do to get back to where we belong.”

Scott Sumpton: “It was a tricky day here at Knockhill after what looked like it was going to be a really promising day after FP1 and FP2. However, we didn’t quite hook it together in qualifying. I was maybe overdriving a little bit and trying to push too hard but at least I now know that I can bring it back a little bit and the pace will be there for tomorrow.

“I’ve just got to get kerb hopping and overtake a few people tomorrow, so race day should be a good day!”
