Round 10 – brands hatch gp: Qualifying

Published on October 5, 2024

Quotes from the tenth and final qualifying session of the 2024 Kwik Fit British Touring Car Championship season.

Chris Smiley: “It was a tough start to the day. I had a problem with the rear of the car which meant that we missed most of the first practice session sorting the issue. In free practice 2 we didn’t use any softs as we looked to save them for qualifying and comparing our free practice 2 times with the other runners on the medium we were pretty competitive.

“In qualifying, we just couldn’t find the pace. We put the soft tyre on, which helped, but we couldn’t improve the lap time how we think we should have been able to based on the rest of the field. The car is still in parc ferme at the moment so we won’t know what’s going on with it until it’s back and the guys and girls can check it over.

“For the races tomorrow we need to keep our nose clean, make up some places and try and get into the mix for the race 3 reverse grid.”

Scott Sumpton: “A tough day, but I’ve really enjoyed getting to grips with the Cupra on the Grand Prix loop here at Brands Hatch. Initially, the car was a bit of a handful but we were improving every session and in qualifying I felt like I could really push.

“Unfortunately we line up on the back row for tomorrow’s opening race but I’m confident we can end the season on a high, in the mix and in the points.”
