Restart Racing’s New BTCC Machines Arrive as Preparations for 2025 Shift into GearTitle

Published on December 23, 2024

From Street to Track: The Hyundai i30s Begin Their BTCC Journey

The transformation of the Hyundai i30s from road cars to race-ready BTCC machines is well underway, offering BTCC fans an insight into the engineering precision required at this level. The process has begun with a complete strip-down, removing over 12kg of paint, adhesives and sealants to shave off unnecessary weight. Next comes a series of critical upgrades, including the installation of custom roll cages for safety and stiffness, finely tuned suspension and brake systems for razor-sharp handling, and enhanced aerodynamics to maximise speed and efficiency.

A key highlight of this transformation is Restart Racing’s collaboration with Swindon Powertrain, renowned for developing engines for multiple BTCC race winners. Together, we are integrating BTCC-compliant engines that will bring the i30s to the cutting edge of race performance.

This meticulous nut and bolt approach highlights our ambition to deliver a competitive and high-performing package for the 2025 season. Fans can follow this incredible journey as the cars progress closer to their race debut, with regular updates on social media offering a behind-the-scenes look at the transformation process.

The Driver Lineup: Addressing the Rumours
Chris Smiley has been confirmed as Restart Racing’s lead driver for 2025, but speculation has been mounting around the possibility of Dan Lloyd joining the team as the second driver. Lloyd, a former teammate of Smiley and a 3-time race winner in the Hyundai i30, is a proven competitor with a wealth of experience in the BTCC.

There is growing possability that previous BTCC race winner Dan Lloyd could take the second seat with the team.

Addressing the rumours, Managing Director Pete Jones said:
“We’ve seen a lot of excitement about the idea of Dan rejoining Chris in the Hyundai i30s, and it’s no secret that we’d love to make it happen. Dan is working incredibly hard to secure the sponsorship he needs, and we’re doing everything on our side to help him get over the line. This is a fantastic opportunity for sponsors to step in and back a driver who has the talent and experience to thrive in the BTCC. With the package we’re building, this potential lineup could be a real force to be reckoned with.”

Restart Racing announced at the start of December that they would be switching to a pair of new Hyndai i30’s for the 2025 season.
